     He was the proprietor at The Golden Lion Inn, Leominster, Herefordshire, England^G.¹ Although records of Wontners are to be found up to three hundred years earlier, Thomas is the earliest from whom an unbroken link can be made to modern times.¹

     Thomas Wontner was born on 12 September 1747 at Leominster, Herefordshire, England^G.¹ He was the son of John Wontner and Rebecca King.¹ He married Margaret Lowe, daughter of Edmund Lowe and Elizabeth Ellis, on 6 January 1770 at St. Peter’s, Worcester, Worcestershire, England^G.¹ He died on 10 November 1831 at age 84 at Tibberton Square, Islington, London, England^G.¹ He was buried at Abney Park Cemetery, Islington, London, England^G.¹
     He was registered as a Freeman and Liveryman of the City of London in 1771.¹ In 1772 he founded the firm of Thomas Wontner & Sons. He was associated with the founding of the British & Foreign Bible Society and the London Missionary Society, and active with William Wilberforce in the abolition of slavery.¹ He was Controller of the Countess of Huntingdon’s Chapel in the City between 1782 and 1823.¹ He was registered as a Master of the Worshipful Company of Feltmakers in 1793.¹ He was a Churchwarden in 1795 at St. Botolph’s Church, Aldgate, London, England^G.¹

     Elizabeth Platten was born on 8 August 1803 at Binham, Norfolk, England^G.¹ She married Henry Peace Harrison, son of Miles Harrison and Elizabeth Yaxley, on 6 November 1827 in a Southrepps, Norfolk, England marriage.¹ She died in 1880 at Margate, Kent, England^G.¹
