General Guy Carleton, 1st Baron Dorchester1 
He held the office of Lieutenant-Governor of Canada between 1766 and 1770.2 He held the office of Governor of Canada between 1775 and 1778.2 He was Commander-in-Chief of the forces in America between 1781 and 1783.2 He was created 1st Baron Dorchester, of Dorchester, co. Oxford [Great Britain] on 21 August 1786.2 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Bath (K.B.)2 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.3
