     Mary Bates was the daughter of Gilbert Thompson Bates and Charlotte Thaxter Warren.¹ She married Sir Edward Lionel Fletcher, son of Alfred Fletcher, on 21 February 1903.¹ She died on 27 February 1935.¹
     From 21 February 1903, her married name became Fletcher.¹

     Sir Edward Lionel Fletcher was the son of Alfred Fletcher.¹ He married Mary Bates, daughter of Gilbert Thompson Bates and Charlotte Thaxter Warren, on 21 February 1903.¹ He died on 20 June 1968.¹
     He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.)¹

     Sydney Eggers Bates was born on 28 April 1851.¹ He was the son of Sir Edward Bates, 1st Bt. and Ellen Thompson.¹ He married Elizabeth Jessie Malet, daughter of Lt.-Col. George Grenville Malet and Mary Maria Fleming Taylor, on 9 July 1878.¹ He died on 3 March 1924 at age 72.¹
     He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Hampshire.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for London.¹ He lived at Manydown Park, Wootton St. Lawrence, Basingstoke, Hampshire, England^G.¹

     Sydney Arthur Bates was born on 18 June 1879.¹ He was the son of Sydney Eggers Bates and Elizabeth Jessie Malet.¹ He married Mary da Costa Crosse, daughter of Lt.-Col. Charles Robert Crosse, on 26 April 1905.¹ He died on 7 May 1958 at age 78.¹
     He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Hampshire.¹ He gained the rank of Brevet-Colonel.¹ He was commander of the London Rifle Brigade.¹ He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches four times.¹ He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1915.¹ He was awarded the Croix de Guerre.¹ He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)¹

     Mary da Costa Crosse was the daughter of Lt.-Col. Charles Robert Crosse.¹ She married Sydney Arthur Bates, son of Sydney Eggers Bates and Elizabeth Jessie Malet, on 26 April 1905.¹ She died on 18 January 1962.¹
     From 26 April 1905, her married name became Bates.¹
