James Archibald Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie, 1st Baron Wharncliffe of Wortley was born on 6 October 1776.3 He was the son of Hon. James Archibald Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie and Margaret Cunynghame.3 He married Lady Caroline Elizabeth Mary Crichton, daughter of John Crichton, 1st Earl Erne of Crom Castle and Lady Mary Caroline Hervey, on 30 March 1799.3 He died on 19 December 1845 at age 69.3
He was given the name of James Archibald Stuart at birth.3 He was educated at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey, England.3 On 17 January 1795 his name was legally changed to James Archibald Stuart-Wortley by Royal Licence.3 He gained the rank of Captain in 1797 in the 1st Foot Guards.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Bossiney, Cornwall between 1802 and 1818.3 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Yorkshire between 1818 and 1826.3 In 1826 his name was legally changed to James Archibald Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie by Royal Licence.3 He was created 1st Baron Wharncliffe of Wortley, co.
