Lt.-Col. John Jacob Astor IV1 
Lt.-Col. John Jacob Astor IV was born in 1864.1 He was the son of William Backhouse Astor, Jr. and Caroline Webster Schermerhorn.1 He married, firstly, Ava Loel Willing, daughter of Edward Shippen Willing and Alice Barton, on 17 February 1891.1 He married, secondly, Madeleine Talmadge Force in September 1911.1 He and Ava Loel Willing were divorced in 1910.1 He died on 15 April 1912, killed by debris thrown around teh deck of R.M.S. Titanic, when it sank.1
Lt.-Col. John Jacob Astor IV also went by the nick-name of Jack.1 He was educated at St. Paul’s School, Concord, New Hampshire, U.S.A.G.1 He was educated at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, U.S.A.G.1 He wrote the book A Journey in Other Worlds, published 1894.1 He fought in the Spanish-American War in 1898.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1898 in the U.S. Army.1 He lived at 840 Fifth Avenue, Manhattan, New York City, New York, U.S.A.G.1
