     Sir James Anstruther of Anstruther was the son of John Anstruther of Anstruther and Margaret Clephane.1 He married, firstly, Jean Scott, daughter of Sir Thomas Scott of Abbotshall, before 1571.1 He married, secondly, Margaret Learmonth, daughter of Sir James Learmonth, 1st of Balcomie and Grissel Meldrum, before 1575.2 He died in 1606.1
     He held the office of Hereditary Grand Carver in 1585.1 He held the office of Master of the Household in 1595.1
