     Friedrich August Wilhelm Christian Ernst von Holstein-Gottorp, Herzog von Oldenburg was born on 11 January 1936 at Rastede, Niedersachsen, GermanyG.1 He was the son of Nikolaus Friedrich Wilhelm von Holstein-Gottorp, Hereditary Grand Duke of Oldenburg and Helene Prinzessin zu Waldeck und Pyrmont.1 He married, firstly, Marie-Cécile Kira Viktoria Luise Prinzessin von Preußen, daughter of Ludwig Ferdinand Prinz von Preußen and Kira Kirillovna Romanov, Grand Duchess of Russia, on 3 December 1965 in a civil marriage, with a religious ceremony held the following day, also in Berlin.1 He and Marie-Cécile Kira Viktoria Luise Prinzessin von Preußen were divorced on 23 November 1989. He married, secondly, Donata Emma Gräfin zu Castell-Rüdenhausen, daughter of Siegfried Casimir Friedrich Fürst zu Castell-Rüdenhausen and Irene Gräfin zu Solms-Laubach, on 9 February 1991 at Rüdenhausen, GermanyG. He died on 9 July 2017 at age 81 at Merano, Italy.2
     He gained the title of HH Duke of Oldenburg.
