He succeeded as the 5th Fürst zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg on 12 April 1860.2 He gained the title of Prinz zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg after renouncing his rights to the title of Fürst on 21 April 1860.2

Sophie Magdalene Oldenburg, Princess of Denmark was born on 3 July 1746 at Christiansborg Castle, Copenhagen, DenmarkG.3 She was the daughter of Frederik V Oldenburg, King of Denmark and Louisa Hanover, Princess of Great Britain and Ireland.1 She married Gustav III von Holstein-Gottorp, King of Sweden, son of Adolf Frederik I von Holstein-Gottorp, King of Sweden and Luise Ulrike Prinzessin von Preußen, on 4 November 1766 at Stockholm, SwedenG.4 She died on 21 August 1813 at age 67 at Ulriksdal Castle.3
She gained the title of HRH Princess Sophia of Denmark.1
