     Frances Ligonier was born on 8 December 1751.¹ She was the daughter of Colonel Francis Augustus Ligonier and Anne Freeman.¹ She married Colonel Thomas Balfour, son of William Balfour, 2nd of Trenaby and Elizabeth Covingtrie, on 19 September 1775.¹
     From 19 September 1775, her married name became Balfour.¹

     Colonel Thomas Balfour was born on 3 February 1752 at Trenaby, Westray, Orkney Islands, Scotland.¹ He was the son of William Balfour, 2nd of Trenaby and Elizabeth Covingtrie.¹ He married Frances Ligonier, daughter of Colonel Francis Augustus Ligonier and Anne Freeman, on 19 September 1775.¹ He died on 9 August 1799 at age 47 at Bath, Somerset, England.¹
     He lived at Cliffdale, Shapinsay, Orkney Islands, Scotland.¹

     William Balfour, 2nd of Trenaby was born in 1719 at Trenaby, Westray, Orkney Islands, Scotland.¹ He married Elizabeth Covingtrie, daughter of Thomas Covingtrie and Elspeth Loutitt, in 1744.¹ He died in October 1786.¹

     Elizabeth Covingtrie was the daughter of Thomas Covingtrie and Elspeth Loutitt.² She married William Balfour, 2nd of Trenaby in 1744.¹ She died on 4 February 1752.¹
     From 1744, her married name became Balfour.¹

     Mary Balfour was born on 1 November 1778 at Burray, Orkney Islands, Scotland.¹ She was the daughter of Colonel Thomas Balfour and Frances Ligonier.¹ She married Reverend Alexander Brunton on 5 December 1798.¹ She died on 7 December 1818 at age 40 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.¹
     From 5 December 1798, her married name became Brunton.¹

     Reverend Alexander Brunton was born in 1772 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.¹ He married Mary Balfour, daughter of Colonel Thomas Balfour and Frances Ligonier, on 5 December 1798.¹ He died on 9 February 1854.¹
     He graduated with a Doctor of Divinity (D.D.)¹ He was Professor of Oriental Languages at Edinburgh University, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.¹

     John Edward Ligonier Balfour was born on 11 January 1780 at Trenaby, Westray, Orkney Islands, Scotland.¹ He was the son of Colonel Thomas Balfour and Frances Ligonier.¹ He died on 19 September 1799 at age 19 at Alkmaar, The Netherlands, killed in action.¹
     He fought in the Battle of Alkmaar on 19 September 1799.¹

     Mary Margaret Baikie was born on 15 February 1795.¹ She married Captain William Balfour, son of Colonel Thomas Balfour and Frances Ligonier, in January 1823.¹
     From January 1823, her married name became Balfour.¹

     Major Anthony Ligonier was the son of Louis de Ligonier, Seigneur de Monteuquet and Louise du Poncet.¹ He died in 1747.¹
     He gained the rank of Major in the British Army.¹ He emigrated to England arriving on 1698.¹
