     He was educated at Upper Canada College, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.1 He graduated from Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was PR Department with Royal Canadian Air Force.1 He was chairman of The Thomson Corporation and Thomson Corporation plc, The Woodbridge Company, and Thomson US Inc.1 He was co-president of Times Newspapers between 1971 and 1981.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Thomson of Fleet, of Northbridge, City of Edinburgh [U.K., 1964] on 4 August 1976.1 He was a newspaper proprietor.1 He was director of Hudson’s Bay Co, and IBM Canada.1 He lived in 2003 at 8 Castle Frank Road, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.1

     From 13 June 1956, her married name became Thomson. After her marriage, Nora Marilyn Lavis was styled as Baroness Thomson of Fleet on 4 August 1976.
