Edward Osborne Hewett was born on 25 September 1835 at Llantrisant, Pontypridd, Wales.1 He was the son of John Hewett and Frances Thornewell.1 He was baptised on 30 October 1835 at Portsea, Hampshire, England.1 He married Catherine Mary Biscoe, daughter of Major Vincent Joseph Biscoe and Margaret van Baerle, on 4 February 1864 at Toronto, Ontario, Canada.1 He died on 3 June 1897 at age 61 at Woolwich, London, England.1
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in the Royal Engineers.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.)1
