Hugh Francis Carleton was born on 3 July 1810.1 He was the son of Francis Carleton and Charlotte Margaretta Molyneux-Montgomerie.3 He married Lydia Jane Williams, daughter of Venerable Henry Williams and Marianne Coldham, on 30 November 1859 at Pakaraka, Northland, New Zealand.1,4 He died on 14 July 1890 at age 80 at Lewisham, Surrey, England, without issue.1,4
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.4 He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.4 He emigrated to New Zealand arriving on 1845.4 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.)
