     He was educated at Westminster School, Westminster, London, England^G.¹ He was educated at Merton College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G.¹ He was an Assistant Master between 1932 and 1941 at Westminster School, Westminster, London, England^G.¹ He wrote the book Westminster, published 1938.¹ He fought in the Second World War, attached to the Special Forces.¹ He was an Assistant Master between 1945 and 1949 at Westminster School, Westminster, London, England^G.¹ He was Under Master and· Master of The Queen’s Scholars between 1949 and 1957 at Westminster School, Westminster, London, England^G.¹ He was the Head Master between 1957 and 1970 at Westminster School, Westminster, London, England^G.¹ He wrote the book Westminster School: A History, published 1965.¹

     Janet Buchanan Smith was born on 9 December 1905.² She is the daughter of Very Rev. Sir George Adam Smith and Lilian Buchanan.^1,2 She married, firstly, Michael Roberts, son of Edward George Roberts, on 22 June 1935.¹ She married, secondly, John Dudley Carleton, son of Brig.-Gen. Frederick Montgomerie Carleton and Emma Gwendolen Priscilla Lloyd, on 5 August 1965.¹
     Janet Buchanan Smith used the pen-name of Janet Adam Smith.¹ She was a journalist and broadcaster.¹ She was a biographer of Buchan.¹ From 22 June 1935, her married name became Roberts.¹ She graduated from Aberdeen University, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, in 1962 with a Doctor of Law (LL.D.)³ From 5 August 1965, her married name became Carleton. She lived in 1976 at 57 Lansdowne Road, London, England^G.¹ She had three sons and a daughter by her first husband.³

     Claire Emilia Carleton was born on 5 December 1901.¹ She was the daughter of Brig.-Gen. Frederick Montgomerie Carleton and Emma Gwendolen Priscilla Lloyd.² She married Professor Giuseppe Roberto Mainella, son of Raffaele Mainella, in June 1933.¹ She died on 21 March 1934 at age 32.¹
     From June 1933, her married name became Mainella.

     Raffaele Mainella lived at Venice, Italy^G.¹

     Professor Giuseppe Roberto Mainella is the son of Raffaele Mainella.² He married Claire Emilia Carleton, daughter of Brig.-Gen. Frederick Montgomerie Carleton and Emma Gwendolen Priscilla Lloyd, in June 1933.¹
     He lived in 1976 at Teatio, Fernice, Venice, Italy^G.¹ He had one son.³

     Mary Carleton was born on 4 November 1856.¹ She was the daughter of General Henry Alexander Carleton and Elizabeth Boyle.² She married Captain John Turner Brinkley, son of Walter Stephens Brinkley, on 3 November 1885.¹ She died on 23 May 1923 at age 66.¹
     From 3 November 1885, her married name became Brinkley.

     Walter Stephens Brinkley lived at Knockmaroon House, County Dublin, Ireland^G.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)¹

     Captain John Turner Brinkley was the son of Walter Stephens Brinkley.² He married Mary Carleton, daughter of General Henry Alexander Carleton and Elizabeth Boyle, on 3 November 1885.¹ He died on 14 December 1928.¹
     He gained the rank of Captain in the North Staffordshire Regiment.¹

     Edith Charlotte Carleton was born on 18 January 1863.¹ She was the daughter of General Henry Alexander Carleton and Elizabeth Boyle.² She died on 23 February 1947 at age 84, unmarried.¹
