James Cecil, 4th Earl of Salisbury was baptised on 25 September 1666.1 He was the son of James Cecil, 3rd Earl of Salisbury and Lady Margaret Manners.1 He married Frances Bennett, daughter of Simon Bennett and Grace Moorwood, on 13 July 1683 at London, EnglandG.1,3 He died on 24 October 1694 at age 28.1
He succeeded as the 4th Baron Cecil of Essendon, co. Rutland [E., 1603] in May 1683.1 He succeeded as the 4th Earl of Salisbury [E., 1605] in May 1683.1 He succeeded as the 4th Viscount Cranborne, co. Dorset [E., 1604] in May 1683.1 He was educated at St. John’s College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG.1 He held the office of Gentleman of the Bedchamber.1 In 1688 he became a Roman Catholic.1 He was Colonel of the Regiment of Horse in November 1688.1 Between October 1689 and June 1692 imprisoned in the Tower of London.1 On 26 October 1689 he was impeached for high treason after false information laid against him.1 He held the office of High Steward of Hertford.1
