Isabella Anne Christian1 
In 1852 on the death of her father, Deemster John Christian, Isabella burned a vast quantity of family documents, a performance that she claimed occupied several days. “Undismayed by this tragedy the late Mrs William Bell Christian of Milntown set to work to record all that research could yeield about her husband’s family.”1 From 3 September 1855, her married name became Howes.2
