     Sir James Cockburn of that Ilk, 1st Bt. was born on 7 November 1628.² He was the son of John Cockburn of that Ilk and Elizabeth Oliphant.² He married Grissel Hay, daughter of unknown Hay of Barra, on 8 January 1658.² He died circa December 1703.² He was buried on 3 January 1704.²
     He held the office of Burgess of Edinburgh in 1658.² He was created 1st Baronet Cockburn [Nova Scotia] on 24 May 1671.² On 6 May 1690 he bought from his cousin Sir Archibald Cockburn of Langton, 4th Bt, the estate of Langton and the office of Usher.²

     Sir John Baird of Newbyth, 2nd Bt. was born on 13 October 1686.² He was the son of Sir William Baird of Newbyth, 1st Bt. and Helen Gilmour.¹ He married Janet Dalrymple, daughter of Hon. Sir David Dalrymple of Hailes, 1st Bt. and Janet Rochead.¹ He died in September 1745 at age 58 at Berwick, Scotland^G, without issue.¹
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Edinburgh between 1715 and 1722.¹ He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Baird, of Newbyth, co. Haddington [S., 1680] on 17 February 1737.¹
     On his death, his baronetcy became extinct.¹

     Janet Dalrymple was born on 31 March 1698.¹ She was the daughter of Hon. Sir David Dalrymple of Hailes, 1st Bt. and Janet Rochead.¹ She married, firstly, Sir John Baird of Newbyth, 2nd Bt., son of Sir William Baird of Newbyth, 1st Bt. and Helen Gilmour.¹ She married, secondly, General Hon. James St. Clair, son of Henry St. Clair, 1st/10th Lord Sinclair and Grizel Cockburn, after 1745.¹ She died on 8 January 1766 at age 67 at London, England^G, without issue.¹
     Her married name became Baird.¹ From after 1745, her married name became St. Clair.¹

     General Hon. James St. Clair was born circa 1690.² He was the son of Henry St. Clair, 1st/10th Lord Sinclair and Grizel Cockburn.³ He married Janet Dalrymple, daughter of Hon. Sir David Dalrymple of Hailes, 1st Bt. and Janet Rochead, after 1745.¹ He died on 30 November 1762 at Dysart, Scotland^G, without issue.^1,4
     He was Ensign of the 1st Battalion, Royal Regiment in 1708.² He gained the rank of Captain in 1714 in the 3rd Foot Guards.² He gained the rank of 2nd Major in 1722.² He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Dysart Burghs between 1722 and 1734.² He gained the rank of 1st Major and Brevet Colonel in 1723.² He was Officer Commanding of the 22nd Foot in 1734.² In 1735 he bought Rosslyn Castle and estate from the last heir of Sir Oliver St Clair of Rosslyn which, with Ravenscraig and Dysart, he entailed to the heirs male of his sisters.² He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Sutherland between 1736 and 1747.² He was Colonel of the Royal Scots between 1737 and 1762.² He gained the rank of Brigadier-General in 1739.² He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in 1745.² He held the office of Governor of County Cork.² He was Commander-in-Chief of the expedition which destroyed French fortifications at Quiberon in 1746.² He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Dysart Burghs between 1747 and 1754.² He was Envoy to Turin and Vienna in 1748.² He succeeded as the 12th Lord Sinclair [S., 1449] on 2 November 1750, de jure, except for attainder.² He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Fife between 1754 and 1762.² He gained the rank of General in 1761.² He lived at Dysart, Scotland^G.¹

     Elizabeth Fleming was the daughter of Malcolm Fleming.¹ She married Sir Robert Baird of Saughtonhall, 1st Bt., son of James Baird and Bethia Dempster, on 18 January 1655.¹ She died circa October 1676.¹ She was buried on 18 October 1676 at Grey Friars, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G.¹
     From 18 January 1655, her married name became Baird.¹

     Malcolm Fleming lived at Rathobyres, Scotland^G.¹ He was also known as Michael Fleming.¹

     Sir James Baird of Saughtonhall, 2nd Bt. was born circa 1658.² He was the son of Sir Robert Baird of Saughtonhall, 1st Bt. and Elizabeth Fleming.¹ He married, secondly, Elizabeth Gibson, daughter of Sir John Gibson and unknown Fleming.¹ He married, firstly, Margaret Hamilton before 1689.¹ He died in May 1715.¹
     He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Baird, of Saughton Hall, co. Edinburgh [N.S., 1696] in February 1697.¹
     He had other issue by his second wife.³

     Margaret Hamilton was born circa 1658.² She married Sir James Baird of Saughtonhall, 2nd Bt., son of Sir Robert Baird of Saughtonhall, 1st Bt. and Elizabeth Fleming, before 1689.¹ She died circa February 1694.¹ She was buried on 8 March 1694 at Grey Friars, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G.¹
     From before 1689, her married name became Baird.¹ She lived at Mountainhall, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G.¹

     Elizabeth Gibson was born circa 1665.² She was the daughter of Sir John Gibson and unknown Fleming.¹ She married Sir James Baird of Saughtonhall, 2nd Bt., son of Sir Robert Baird of Saughtonhall, 1st Bt. and Elizabeth Fleming.¹
     Her married name became Baird.¹

     Sir John Gibson lived at Addiston, Midlothian, Scotland^G.¹
