Sir James Cockburn of that Ilk, 1st Bt.1 
He held the office of Burgess of Edinburgh in 1658.2 He was created 1st Baronet Cockburn [Nova Scotia] on 24 May 1671.2 On 6 May 1690 he bought from his cousin Sir Archibald Cockburn of Langton, 4th Bt, the estate of Langton and the office of Usher.2

Sir John Baird of Newbyth, 2nd Bt.1 
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Edinburgh between 1715 and 1722.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Baird, of Newbyth, co. Haddington [S., 1680] on 17 February 1737.1
On his death, his baronetcy became extinct.1

He was Ensign of the 1st Battalion, Royal Regiment in 1708.2 He gained the rank of Captain in 1714 in the 3rd Foot Guards.2 He gained the rank of 2nd Major in 1722.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Dysart Burghs between 1722 and 1734.2 He gained the rank of 1st Major and Brevet Colonel in 1723.2 He was Officer Commanding of the 22nd Foot in 1734.2 In 1735 he bought Rosslyn Castle and estate from the last heir of Sir Oliver St Clair of Rosslyn which, with Ravenscraig and Dysart, he entailed to the heirs male of his sisters.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Sutherland between 1736 and 1747.2 He was Colonel of the Royal Scots between 1737 and 1762.2 He gained the rank of Brigadier-General in 1739.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in 1745.2 He held the office of Governor of County Cork.2 He was Commander-in-Chief of the expedition which destroyed French fortifications at Quiberon in 1746.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Dysart Burghs between 1747 and 1754.2 He was Envoy to Turin and Vienna in 1748.2 He succeeded as the 12th Lord Sinclair [S., 1449] on 2 November 1750, de jure, except for attainder.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Fife between 1754 and 1762.2 He gained the rank of General in 1761.2 He lived at Dysart, ScotlandG.1
