He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Ashburnham, of Bromham [in Guestling], Sussex [E., 1661] in December 1697.1 He was a Commissioner of the Alienation Office.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Hastings between 1710 and 1713.1 He held the office of Chamberlain of the Exchequer between 1710 and 1755.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Seaford between 1715 and 1717.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Hastings between 1722 and 1741.1

Before 1710 he married an unknown person, and this obscure marriage is probably the reason he inherited the titles but not the family estates.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Ashburnham, of Bromham [in Guestling], Sussex [E., 1661] on 7 November 1755.1

He graduated from Corpus Christi College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1731 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He graduated from Corpus Christi College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1734 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He held the office of Dean of Chichester, Sussex in 1741.1 He graduated from Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1749 with a Doctor of Divinity (D.D.)1 He was the Vicar at Bexhill, Sussex, EnglandG.1 He held the office of Canon Residentiary of St. Paul’s Cathedral in 1753.2 He held the office of Bishop of Chichester between 1754 and 1797.1 On 7 November 1755 he succeeded to the family estates on the death of his uncle, the 2nd Baronet.1 He succeeded as the 4th Baronet Ashburnham, of Bromham [in Guestling], Sussex [E., 1661] on 3 October 1762.1 His last will was dated 8 October 1796.
