Rear-Admiral Sir Robert Keith Arbuthnot, 4th Bt.

Rear-Admiral Sir Robert Keith Arbuthnot, 4th Bt. was born on 23 March 1864 at Alderminster, Warwickshire, EnglandG.2 He was the son of Major Sir William Wedderburn Arbuthnot, 3rd Bt. and Alice Margaret Tompson.2 He married Lina MacLeay, daughter of Colonel Alexander Caldcleugh MacLeay, on 11 December 1897.2,3 He died on 31 May 1916 at age 52, killed in action, on board H.M.S. Defense.2
He gained the rank of Midshipman in 1877 in the Royal Navy.2 He gained the rank of Sub-Lieutenant in 1883.4 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1885.2 He succeeded as the 4th Baronet Arbuthnot, of Edinburgh [U.K., 1823] on 5 June 1889.4 He gained the rank of Commander in 1897.2 He gained the rank of Captain in 1902.4 He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1904.4 He gained the rank of Commodore in 1910.4 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to HM King George V between 1911 and 1912.4 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral in 1912.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1916.4 He fought in the Battle of Jutland on 31 May 1916, in command of the first cruiser squadron (old-style armoured cruisers.)2 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) posthumously.2 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Dictionary.2
