     Malcolm Ian Sinclair, 20th Earl of Caithness was born on 3 November 1948.1 He is the son of James Roderick Sinclair, 19th Earl of Caithness and Madeleine Gabrielle de Pury.2 He married, firstly, Diana Caroline Coke, daughter of Major Richard Lovel Coke and Molly Fletcher, on 9 January 1975.1 He married, secondly, Leila Cassel Jenkins, daughter of Theodore Locke Jenkins and Kathleen Ennis, in November 2004.3 He and Leila Cassel Jenkins were divorced in 2005.4
     He was educated at Marlborough College, Marlborough, Wiltshire, EnglandG.1 He held the position of Chief of the Name and Arms of Sinclair from in 1965.1 He succeeded as the 20th Earl of Caithness [S., 1455] on 9 May 1965.1 He succeeded as the 20th Lord Berriedale [S., 1449] on 9 May 1965.1 He succeeded as the 15th Baronet Sinclair, of Canisbay, co. Caithness [N.S., 1631] on 9 May 1965.1 He was educated at Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester, Gloucestershire, EnglandG.1 He was an estate agent, with Savill’s and then Brown and Mumford between 1972 and 1980.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (F.R.I.C.S.)1 He held the office of Lord-in-Waiting between 1984 and 1985.1 He held the office of Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Transport between 1985 and 1986.1 He held the office of Minister of State, Home Office between 1986 and 1988.1 He held the office of Minister of State, Department for Environment between 1988 and 1989.1 He held the office of Minister of State, H.M.
