He fought in the Kaffir War between 1851 and 1852.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Baird, of Newbyth, co. Haddington [U.K., 1809] on 8 January 1852.1 He fought in the Crimean War, where he was on the staff of Sir Colin Campbell, Lord Clyde.1 He fought in the Indian Mutiny, again, on the staff of Sir Colin Campbell.1 He gained the rank of Major in the 98th Foot.1 He was Commissioner of Supply at Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1 He gained the rank of Major in the 74th Highlanders.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Haddington.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Haddington.1
