Hon. William Borthwick 
On 8 February 1913 he was granted the rank of a baron’s son.2 He gained the rank of Temporary Captain in the King’s Royal Rifle Corps.1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1919, where he was wounded twice and became a POW.1 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1919 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-Law.1

Sir Thomas Borthwick, 1st Bt.1 
Proprietor of Thomas Borthwick & Sons Ltd.1 He was created 1st Baronet Borthwick, of Whitburgh House, Ford, co. Midlothian [U.K.] on 21 July 1908.2 He lived at Whitburgh House, Ford, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1 On 14 June 1912 his elevation to the peerage was announced, but he died before the issue of the Letters Patent.1

Thomas Banks Borthwick, 1st and last Baron Whitburgh 
He was a partner in the firm of Thomas Borthwick & Sons Ltd.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Midlothian.3 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Midlothian.3 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Borthwick, of Whitburgh House, Ford, co. Midlothian [U.K., 1908] on 31 July 1912.3 He was created 1st Baron Whitburgh, of Whitburgh, in the county of Midlothian [U.K.] on 10 December 1912.1
On his death, the Barony of Whitburgh became extinct, although his Baronetcy was inheriited by his nephew, John Thomas Borthwick.2
