     He was educated at Ealing Grammar School, Ealing, London, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Nottingham University, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, EnglandG, in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering (B.Sc.)1 He was a consulting civil engineer in 1965.1 He was registered as a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng.)1 He was appointed Fellow, Institution of Civil Engineers (F.I.C.E.)1 He was registered as a Chartered Geologist (C.Geol.)1 He was a director of various companies in the construction industry between 1989 and 2009.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Amwell, of Islington, co. London [U.K., 1947] in 1990.1 He was appointed Fellow, Geological Society (F.G.S.)1 He was registered as a Member, Institute of Highways and Transportation (M.I.H.T.)1

     From 5 May 1970, her married name became Montague.1 After her marriage, Mary Palfreyman was styled as Baroness Amwell in 1990.
