     Colonel Arthur Mark Shewell was born in 1840.1 He was the son of Edward Warner Shewell and Emma Poole.1 He married Harriet Mary Dunsterville, daughter of Lt.-Col. James Barnes Dunsterville and Harriet Birch.1 He died on 2 September 1880 at Kandahar, Afghanistan, from wounds received in action on 16 August 1880.1
     He was commissioned in 1856 with the rank of officer, in the service of the 2nd Bombay European Light Infantry.2 He gained the rank of officer in 1863 in the Bombay Staff Corps.2
