     General Sir James William Howard Fitzmayer was born in 1813 at Demerara, Guyana.1 He was the son of Major Charles Howard Fitzmayer and Catherine Morrisey.1 He married Jane Louisa Lane, daughter of Major Henry Bowyer Lane and Elizabeth Lacey, in October 1841 at Tiverton, Devon, England.1 He married Lucy Sivewright, daughter of Charles Kane Sivewright and Lucy Vivian, on 27 January 1863.1 He died on 28 May 1895.1 He was buried at St. Mary’s Parish Churchyard, Ross, Herefordshire, England.1
     He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, Kent, England.1 He gained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in 1830 in the Royal Artillery.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in October 1831.1 He was awarded the Chevalier, Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur on 16 July 1856.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.)1 He gained the rank of Major-General circa 1867.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1871.1
