     Captain Eric Percy Coventry Back was born on 5 August 1870 at Torquay, Devon, England.1 He was the son of Reverend Samuel Back and Eugenie Gertrude Coventry.1 He married Violet Hammill in 1911 at Havant, Hampshire, England.1 He died on 30 December 1915 at age 45 at Cromarty, Argyllshire, Scotland, killed when his ship, H.M.S. Natal, suffered in an internal explosion while at anchor.1
     He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.1
