Patrick George Matthew Best was born on 5 October 1923.1 He was the son of Samuel John Best, 7th Baron Wynford and Evelyn Mary Aylmer May.2 He married Heather Elizabeth Gardner, daughter of Hamilton Gardner, on 29 March 1947.1 He married Loveday Gabriel England, daughter of Kenneth Ascough England, on 1 April 2000.1 He died on 30 October 2009 at age 86.3
     He was educated at Wellington College, Crowthorne, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the Second World War.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve.1 He was Chairman/Managing Director of Wiggins Teape Group.1 He was Director of BAT Industries.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society of Arts (F.R.S.A.)1
