Lt.-Col. Arthur Martin-Leake, V.C. and bar was born on 4 April 1874 at Standon, Hertfordshire, England.1 He was the son of Stephen Martin-Leake and Isabel Plunkett.1 He married Winifred Frances Nedham, daughter of William Alfred Nedham, on 1 October 1930.2 He died on 22 June 1953 at age 79.1
He was educated at Westminster School, London, England.3 He was educated at University College London, London, England.3 He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1902, he was mentioned in despatches and was severely wounded.3 He was awarded the Victoria Cross (V.C.) on 13 May 1902 and Bar (1915.)1 He fought in the Balkan War between 1912 and 1913.3 He fought in the First World War, he was mentioned in despatches.3 He was awarded the Royal Officers’ Decoration (V.D.)1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal College of Surgeons (F.R.C.S.)1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Army Medical Corps.1 He was chief medical officer of the Bengal-Nagpur Railway.2
