He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1902.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers.1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1916.1 He was Lieutenant-Colonel of the 5th Battalion, Wiltshire Regiment.1
