     James Hamilton, 1st of Stonehouse was the son of James Hamilton, 3rd of Raploch and Isabel Weir of Blackwood.2,3 He married Grizel Sempill, daughter of Robert Sempill, 3rd Lord Sempill and Isabel Hamilton, before 10 March 1539/40.1 He and Grizel Sempill were divorced before 21 February 1545/46.1 He married Margaret Mouat of Stonehouse, daughter of Alexander Mouat of Stonehouse.3 He died in 1548.1
