He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Artillery.1 He fought in the Second World War in 1978, in India, Burma and Sumatra where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He graduated from Balliol College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1948 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He graduated from Hebrew University, Jerusalem, IsraelG, in 1953 with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)1 He was registered as a Chartered Chemist.2 He was with the faculty in 1957 at Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel.1 He was Sherman Professor of Physical Chemistry between 1968 and 1987 at Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel.1 He was member of the US-Israel Educational Foundation Board between 1969 and 1974.1 He was Director of the Centre for Neurosciences and Behavioural Research between 1970 and 1985.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Viscount Samuel, of Mount Carmel, and of Toxteth, in the City of Liverpool [U.K., 1937] on 14 November 1978.2 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society of Chemistry (F.R.S.C.)1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1996.1 He lived in 2003 at 1/4 Pinhas Rosen Street, Herzlia, Israel.1
