     General Sir Thomas Montagu Steele was born on 11 May 1820.2 He was the son of Maj.-Gen. Thomas Steele and Lady Elizabeth Montagu.3 He married, firstly, Isabella Fitzgerald, daughter of Edward Marlborough Fitzgerald and Charlotte Julia Jephson, in 1856. He married, secondly, Rosalie Malvina McCarty, daughter of Thomas S. McCarty and Jane Gardner, in 1865.1 He died on 25 February 1890 at age 69 at Frimley Park, Bagshot, Surrey, England.2
     He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) He gained the rank of Colonel in 1874 in the 61st Regiment. He was Commander-in-Chief of the Ireland in 1880.
