     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.¹ He was educated at University College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.¹ He was director of John Swire & Company between 1955 and 1997.¹ He was chairman of John Swire & Company between 1966 and 1987.¹ He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1977.¹ He was appointed Knight in 1990.¹

     Hon. Patricia Anne Manners was born on 13 May 1927.² She was the daughter of Francis Henry Manners, 4th Baron Manners of Foston and Mary Edith Gascoyne-Cecil.² She married John Bonham Kidston, son of George Jardine Kidston and Lilian Frances Bonham, on 6 April 1946.¹ She died on 11 September 2021 at age 94.³
     From 6 April 1946, her married name became Kidston.¹
