Sir Nicholas Mosley was born circa 1527.1 He was the son of Edward Moseley and Margaret Elcock.2 He married, firstly, Margaret Whitbroke, daughter of Hugh Whitbroke.1 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Rookes, daughter of John Rookes, on 19 October 1592.1 He died on 12 December 1612.1
He was given the name of Nicholas Moseley at birth.1 He held the office of Sheriff of London in 1590.1 In 1596 he acquired for £3,500 as settlement of a debt the Manor of Manchester, which remained in the family till acquired by Manchester Corporation 1846.1 He held the office of Lord Mayor of London from 1599 to 1600.1 He was appointed Knight circa 1600.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Lancashire in 1604.1
