Vice-Admiral James Gambier was born in 1723.2 He was the son of James Gambier and Mary Mead. He died on 8 January 1789 at Bath, Somerset, England.2
He was Commander-in-Chief of the North American Station between 1770 and 1773.2 He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral on 26 September 1780.2
