He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.2 He graduated from Magdalene College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1936 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)2 He fought in the Palestine Campaign between 1937 and 1939, where he was wounded and was mentioned in dispatches.2 He fought in the Second World War.2 He was admitted to Royal Company of Archers.2 He retired from the military in 1947, with the rank of Major, late of the Coldstream Guards.2 He partipicated in an ordinance between 1949 and 1957; Portcullis Pursuivant of Arms.2 He was appointed Lieutenant, Royal Victorian Order (L.V.O.) in 1953.2 He was Extra Equerry to HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother between 1953 and 2002.2 He held the office of York Herald between 1957 and 1968.2 He succeeded as the 17th Lord Sinclair [S., 1449] on 25 November 1957.1 He succeeded as the 8th Lord Sinclair [S., 1677] on 25 November 1957.1 He was appointed Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1959 and 1963.2 He was Honorary Genealogist of the Royal Victorian Order between 1960 and 1968.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Kirkcudbrightshire between 1969 and 1974.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Dumfries and Galloway between 1974 and 1977.2 He held the office of Vice-Lord-Lieutenant of Dumfries and Galloway Region (District of Stewartry) between 1977 and 1982.2 He was Lord-Lieutenant of Dumfries and Galloway Region (District of Stewartry) between 1982 and 1989.2 He was appointed Commander, Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) in 1990.2 He lived in 2003 at Knocknalling, St. John’s Town of Dalry, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland.2
