John O’Neill1

He was styled as 5th Earl of Tyrone.1 He was also known as Shane O’Neill. He gained the rank of Colonel in the Irish Regiment of Tyrone in Spanish service first in Flanders then in Spain.1 He was awarded the Knight of Calatrava in 1632.1 He fought in the Battle of Fuenterrabia in 1638, against the French.1 He held the office of Major Domo of Madrid before May 1639.1 He held the office of member of the Spanish Supreme Council of War in 1640.1
