George O’Callaghan-Westropp, The O’Callaghan1
He was given the name of George O’Callaghan at birth.1 On 8 June 1885 his name was legally changed to George O’Callaghan-Westropp by Royal Licence with quartered arms under terms of bequest by his aunt Catherine’s husband Ralph.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Clare.1 He was member of the Royal Commission on Militia and Volunteers between 1903 and 1904.1 He was Aide-de-Camp to HM King Edward VII in 1905.1 He was Aide-de-Camp to HM King George V in 1910.1 He lived at Coolreagh, Bodyke, County Clare, Ireland.1 He lived in 1912 at Maryfort, County Clare, Ireland, (which name he changed back to Lismehane.1 ) He held the office of High Sheriff of County Clare in 1919.1 He was Colonel Commandant of the Clare Artillery.1 He held the office of Senator [Irish Free State] between 1921 and 1922.1 He was Aide-de-Camp to HM King Edward VIII in 1936.1 In 1937 His claim as chief of the Name O’Callaghan was claim recognized by Chief Herald of Ireland 1943 but later research showed this claim to lack genealogical proof and it was ruled that the rightful heirs to the Chiefship were the O’Callaghans domiciled in Spain, although the Chief Herald of Ireland let him continue styling himself The O’Callaghan until his death.1
