     Robert Sandilands, 11th Lord Torphichen was born on 3 August 1807.2 He is the son of James Sandilands, 10th Lord Torphichen and Margaret Douglas Stirling.1,3 He married Helen Maitland, daughter of Thomas Maitland, Lord Dundrennan and Isabella Graham Macdowall, on 25 July 1865.2 He died on 24 December 1869 at age 62, without issue.2
     He gained the rank of Officer between 1825 and 1831 in the Scots Fusiliers.2 He succeeded as the 11th Lord Torphichen, of Saint John of Torphichen, West Lothian [S., 1564] on 22 March 1862.2
