     Uchtred McDowall of Mundork married Catherine Herries, daughter of William Herries, 3rd Lord Herries of Terregles and Catherine Kennedy.¹

     Janet Herries was the daughter of William Herries, 3rd Lord Herries of Terregles and Catherine Kennedy.¹ She married Sir James Cockburn of Skerling.¹ She died in December 1612.¹
     Her married name became Cockburn.¹

     Sara Johnstone is the daughter of Sir John Johnstone of that Ilk and Margaret Scott.¹ She married Sir Robert Maxwell of Spottis, son of Sir John Maxwell and Agnes Herries, Lady Herries of Terregles.¹
     Her married name became Maxwell.¹

     Sir Robert Maxwell of Spottis was the son of Sir John Maxwell and Agnes Herries, Lady Herries of Terregles.¹ He married, secondly, Sara Johnstone, daughter of Sir John Johnstone of that Ilk and Margaret Scott.¹ He married, firstly, Elizabeth Gordon, daughter of John Gordon of Auchinresch, before 27 April 1577.^1,2 He died circa 31 October 1615.¹
     On 21 February 1573 he acquired the eleven merk land of Spottis and others.² On 27 April 1577 he and his wife were infeffed of the lands of Netherlaw, in Rerwick.² In 1582 he had taken Orchardton in wadset.² On 2 January 1584 he and his wife were infeffed of the lands of Nether Linkings.² On 25 May 1590 he acquired the lands of Kings’ Grange or Little Spottis, in the parish of Urr.² On 3 August 1593 he acquired the lands of West Netherlaw.²

     Elizabeth Gordon is the daughter of John Gordon of Auchinresch.¹ She married, firstly, Alexander Maclellan of Gelston.¹ She married, secondly, Sir Robert Maxwell of Spottis, son of Sir John Maxwell and Agnes Herries, Lady Herries of Terregles, before 27 April 1577.^1,2
     Her married name became Maclellan.¹ From before 27 April 1577, her married name became Maxwell.¹

     Alexander Maclellan of Gelston married Elizabeth Gordon, daughter of John Gordon of Auchinresch.¹

     Sir Robert Maxwell of Orchardtoun, 1st Bt. was the son of Sir Robert Maxwell of Spottis and Elizabeth Gordon.^1,2 He married Anne Maclellan, daughter of Robert Maclellan, 1st Lord Kirkcudbright, before February 1639/40.¹ He died before 20 October 1681.^1,2
     On 31 October 1615 he was retoured heir to his father in the lands of Spottis and others.² He was created 1st Baronet Maxwell, of Orchardtoun [Nova Scotia] on 30 June 1663.¹ He lived at Ballycastle, County Londonderry, Ireland.¹ He lived at Ordchardtoun, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland.¹
