She had a father who was the last Laird of Boisdale and in the 1851 census of Liverpool she is living with 3 servants and a nursemaid. Unfortunately, the money ran out and she was on her own by 20. She married Robert Moffatt who was an Irish immigrant to Liverpool and who was not accepted by her family. She had 4 sons by Robert and then
he died in 1872 at the age of 45. He was a policeman for the Liverpool docks. She remarried a Thomas Ellershaw in 1889 but he passed away a few years later. Mary was born in Wales, grew up in Liverpool and died there in 1908. Of her 5 sons, 4 stayed in the UK and John, the youngest moved to Canada.¹ From 19 April 1865, her married name became Moffatt.¹

     Flora Moffatt was born on 9 September 1918 at Fort William, Ontario, Canada.¹ She is the daughter of John Henry Cornelius Boisdale Hender Moffatt and Mary Emily Maud Lawton. She married Henry John Lowther on 4 March 1940.¹
