Surrey [E., 1659] on 1 August 1779.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Earl of Monmouth [E., 1689] on 1 August 1779.1 He succeeded as the 4th Viscount Mordaunt of Avalon, co. Somerset [E., 1659] on 1 August 1779.1 On his death, all his titles bar the Barony of Mordaunt expired.1 Litigation over his funeral expenses constituting a milestone in English case law on burial.1
