Lt.-Col. Sir William Guy Lowther, 5th Bt. usually went by his middle name of Guy.1 He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the Palestine Campaign in 1936, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He fought in the Second World War, where he became a POW.1 He succeeded as the 5th Baronet Lowther, of Swillington, co. York [U.K., 1824] on 22 January 1949.1 He fought in the Korean War between 1950 and 1951, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was Lieutenant-Colonel of the 8th Hussars between 1951 and 1954.1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1952.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Denbighshire in 1959.1 He was admitted to Gentlemen-at-Arms between 1962 and 1982.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Denbighshire in 1969.1
