Most Rev. John Bird Sumner1 

Most Rev. John Bird Sumner was born on 25 February 1780 at Kenilworth, Warwickshire, England.2 He was the son of Reverend Robert Sumner and Hannah Bird.1 He married Marianne Robertson, daughter of Captain George Robertson and Ann Lewis, on 31 March 1803.2,3 He died in 1862.2
He was educated between 1791 and 1798 at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.2 He was educated at King’s College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.2 He was president of the Canterbury Assocation.2 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) in 1848.2 He held the office of Archbishop of Canterbury between 1848 and 1862.1

He was given the name of John Leicester-Warren at birth.1 He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He graduated from Magdalen College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1928 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1933 entitled to practise as a barrister.1 He graduated from Magdalen College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1933 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1939 in the Cheshire Yeomanry (Territorial Army) W.1 He fought in the Second World War between 1939 and 1941, where he became a POW.1 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1946 in the Staff JAG (War Crimes.)1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Cheshire in 1948.1 He was commander of the Cheshire Yeomanry between 1949 and 1952.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Cheshire between 1955 and 1968.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Cheshire in 1965.1 He held the office of Vice-Lieutenant of Hampshire in 1968.1
