     Elizabeth Macdowall was born in April 1742.2 She was the daughter of Colonel William Macdowall, 1st of Castlesemple and Isabella Wallace.3 She married Sir Archibald Hope of Craighall, 9th Bt., son of Archibald Hope and Catherine Tod, in 1757.1 She died on 12 October 1778 at age 36.1
     From 1757, her married name became Hope.
