Sir Thomas Isaac Birkin, 1st Bt.1,2 
He gained the rank of Captain in 1859 in the 3rd Volunteer Battalion, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment (Robin Hood Rifles), which he helped to establish.2 He was a director of GNR.2 He was a director of the Mercantile Steamship Company.2 He held the office of High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire between 1892 and 1893.2 He was created 1st Baronet Birkin, of Ruddington Grange, Nottingham [U.K.] on 25 July 1905.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Nottinghamshire.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Nottinghamshire.2
