     Lt.-Col. Archibald Gordon Rainsford-Hannay was born on 9 November 1882.¹ He was the son of Colonel Ramsay William Rainsford-Hannay of Kirkdale and Helen Jane Brancker.² He married Muriel Eskine Austin, daughter of William Austin, on 17 October 1917.¹ He died on 22 February 1971 at age 88.¹
     He was educated at Wellington College, Crowthorne, Berkshire, England^G.¹ He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, Kent, England^G.¹ He fought in the First World War.¹ He fought in the Expedition to Darfur in 1916.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Engineers.¹ He was awarded the Order of the Nile.¹ He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)¹ He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.)¹

     Muriel Eskine Austin was the daughter of William Austin.² She married Lt.-Col. Archibald Gordon Rainsford-Hannay, son of Colonel Ramsay William Rainsford-Hannay of Kirkdale and Helen Jane Brancker, on 17 October 1917.¹ She died on 8 January 1971.¹
     From 17 October 1917, her married name became Rainsford-Hannay.

     Joan Margaret Rainsford-Hannay was born on 16 October 1921.¹ She was the daughter of Lt.-Col. Archibald Gordon Rainsford-Hannay and Muriel Eskine Austin.² She married Anthony Francis Germon Marshall Bassett, son of Major Francis Marshall Bassett and Violet Alice Germon, on 7 January 1950.¹ She died on 15 September 2011 at age 89.³
     From 7 January 1950, her married name became Bassett. She lived in 2003 at 378 Banbury Road, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G.¹
