     Sir William Johnstone of Westerhall, 2nd Bt. was the son of Sir James Johnstone of Westerhall and Margaret Bannatyne.2 He married Henrietta Johnstone, daughter of James Johnstone of Sheens.2 He died on 8 October 1727.2
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Annan [Scotland] between 1698 and 1707.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dumfries Burghs between 1708 and 1715.2 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Johnstone, of Westerhall [N.S., 1700] on 30 September 1711.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dumfries-shire between 1715 and 1722.2 He held the office of Deputy-Steward of Kirkcudbright in 1717.2
