     William Macdowall Grant, 6th of Arndilly was born on 30 November 1795.¹ He is the son of David Macdowall and Eleanor Mary Grant.² He married Hon. Eleanora Fraser, daughter of Alexander Fraser, 16th Lord Saltoun of Abernethy and Margery Fraser, on 5 December 1825.¹ He died on 29 January 1849 at age 53.¹
     He lived at Arndilly, Banffshire, Scotland^G.³
