He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, EnglandG.3 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1839 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-Law.3 He was Counsel to the Commissioner of Customs in 1840.3 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1842 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)3 He was appointed Queen’s Counsel (Q.C.) in 1855.3 He held the office of Bencher of the Inner Temple in 1856.3 He was Counsel to the Duchy of Lancaster in 1859.3 He was appointed Knight Bachelor in 1860.3 He held the office of Baron of the Exchequer in 1860.3 He held the office of Judge of the High Court, Probate and Divorce Division between 1863 and 1872.3 He was created 1st Baron Penzance, of Penzance, co. Cornwall [U.K.] on 6 April 1869.2 He was official principal of the Chancery Court of York in 1875.3

Hon. Georgina Mary Amelia Bloomfield was the daughter of Lt.-Gen. Benjamin Bloomfield, 1st Baron Bloomfield of Oakhampton and Redwood and Harriott Douglas.1,3 She married Henry Trench, son of William Trench and Sarah Elizabeth Frances Henrietta Ricarda Moore, on 22 October 1836.1 She died on 13 January 1893.1
From 22 October 1836, her married name became Trench.1
