     He fought in the First World War.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Northumberland Fusiliers.1 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 43rd Wessex Division Signals, Royal Signals (Territorial Army.)1 He was King’s Messenger.1
